Good mod, I plan on doing this soon. Has anyone heard about the kegger(intake plenum) mod that consist of shaving metal of the runners inside the plenum. Its suppost to improve air flow and increase hp, torque and mpg. I checked my intake and the plenum is leaking so I am going to open it up anyway. Any ideas or input?

Very interested in doing this mod tomorrow... i have to get a dremel first but will take lots of pics to post step by step process and I will show all statistics right now i have an 02 ram with the 5.9 averaging 12.5 on highway cruising at 65-70. Hopefully we shall see improvement. Just wondering, with me doing this and having a CAI by K&N, do i need a computer now?

I took off my air hat and was surprised at how tall the silencers were. After seeing that, I began to think that there might be some legitimacy behind this. It was easily 1/4 - 1/3 of the total clearance between the top of the TB and the bottom of the hat.

So I whipped out my trusty dremel tool and hacked away...and hacked...and hacked. The port and starboard sides are thick. I ate through 6 cutting wheels.

After I put it all back together, I must say I was impressed. For a free mod, my throttle response was better and there's a nice sucking sound while at idle. The butt dyno felt a some more power and the torque seemed to hit a little lower on the RPM gauge.

Overall, I'd attribute this mod as about twice what you feel with a K&N filter on a stock intake. As we all know, mods compound each other, and I have quite a few mods already. So your mileage may vary.

A couple of pointers to you if you take this on (and I personally suggest it!)

-WEAR SAFETY GLASSES. Aluminum filings are not fun in the eyes
-Remove the IAC, MAP, and TPS. I've got a shiny new IAC where my dumbass knicked the IAC with my dremel tool.
-Belevel the sharp edges leading into the butterfly valves. This'll prevent a low pressure spot right at the edge of the valves
-Use Mother's aluminum and mag polish. If nothing else, you've already got it apart. Clean it!
-Taper the hard valley between the butterfly valves. This'll help air flowing across by removing 2 more low pressure zones
-Don't try and cut all the way through the silencers...this'll take forever. Cut about 15% out on both sides, groove the front and the back of it, and then take a pair of pliers to just break it off. You're going to have to sand it anyways and this'll save a load of time.
-Clean the entire TB top to bottom. It should be shiny...not black. You know who you are
-Don't touch the butterfly valves with the dremel. They have a very tight tolerance.
-Incase you skipped over number 1: WEAR SAFETY GLASSES

And the pics - these are after I was done. The 5.2 posting has a good before shot.

Did anyone actually do this that's still around here? Can anyone attest to mileage differences?
