Default 2001 dodge 5.2 heater core/oil

Two years ago heater core was replaced. After market core started leaking recently and had to replace core again. When the core was removed this time I noticed what seemed to be oil on the bottom of the box and around the core itself. Not alot of oil, most of the area seemed glazed with the material. I'm not totally sure if its engine oil, or some type of reaction between the antifreeze leaking and a foam material that surrounds the edges of the core. I'm not sure how the oil could make it that far from the engine, if it is in fact oil. It did not smell or feel like oil but ?

The engine does use about a quart of oil every 1400 miles or so, and I did add to the coolant resevior but I believe that was because of the core leak. No other obvious issues.

Any thoughts.

The oil could be from the A/C system when the heater core was first replaced. As for your engine oil consumption, I'd bet my hat that your intake plenum pan casket is blown.

During the replacement 2 years ago the a/c condenser, (can't think of right word, located next to core), was also replaced, I'm not sure how the a/c oil would leak from the system in the box.

I am aware the of gasket issue, but I've also been told that my oil use is normal.

Evaporator . It's possible it wasn't cleaned out from the original replacement . Does the A/C still work ?

A/c working fine, 2 yrs ago box was clean, but oily upon this change. I'm thinking the core was leaking for many months and built up some type of residue from the antifreeze. Kind of odd, The residue has no smell.
