Default 2011 Quad Ram 1500 Gas Consumption

Just put 300 km on new quad ram with the hemi and am wondering if gas cosumtion will get better. I can't seem to get it below 20 liters per 100km. This is a far cry from the 15.8L/100km advertised on the sticker price sheet. I have been light on the pedal travelling 20 km to work and back but still find the consumption high. Looking for suggestions or comments.

Welcome to the Z. That equals 62 miles (US) and 5.28 gal (US), which results in 11.74 mpg (US). You don't say how fast you're going or whether it is hilly or level ground. Does definitely seem low though. It would also help to know what gears you have in the rear end (they are on the window sticker the dealer should have given you) and what rpm you were at while driving. It all factors in.

We have a lot of forums for all kinds of topics, so you shouldn't have any problems finding a place to post questions.

We LOVE pics of Rams.

Here's how to post them: http://www.ramforumz.com/forumdisplay.php?f=73

I agree Scott - same situation here... Hoping it gets better after a break-in period. I saw that the mileage ratings for this truck are actually better than my 2004 Durango 4.7 - I hope it's not just B.S.

Mine was up over 20 lit/100kms when I first got it. It has settled down to 17 lit/100kms over 15 tank fulls (city/highway mixed). I have seen it as low as 12 lit/100kms on the highway. I have noticed that it does not do well in stop and go to the next light. It's on the highway where it really does well. Does your 20kms to work have lots of traffic lights ? I didn't get this truck expecting steller gas milage however overall I'm quite pleased with it.

Are you using the remote start much? Mine went over 20 per 100 after I started using it. Otherwise I was at 17 per 100. Mine still only has just over 700kms on it so its far from broken in.

Default Gas mileage (sucks alot with heavy foot)

I have a 2010 TRX 5.7 and now have 11000kms 2nd oil change truck keeps telling me to get oil change every 4000kms. I was getting around 20 to 22 per 100km so I put a K&N cold air induction kit on it. Still did not get a increase in gas mileage however big increase in power. My buddy (a owner of 2008 Ram 5.7)than told me if you ease down on the pedal and take off slow and build up the speed the gas mileage will increase. So I filled the tank and got 588kms and the truck told me I still had 80kms to go when I refilled the tank with 104liters the truck said I was getting 16 liters per/100kms. So take it slow when starting off and your mileage will increase. It is also true on the highway you will get around 15 to 16 per 100kms. Drive it like a Charger and you can forget getting good gas mileage. As far as the claim by Dodge for gas mileage it must have been on a flat track driving at 90kms per hour lol.

Unfortunately I don't have the remote start . However I do plug in the block heater now that it's colder in the morning. I have tracked my mileage with a spreadsheet (every tank since I took delivery). I now have a little over 9000 kms and my MPG numbers are:

16.5 Liters/100km OR 17.1 MPG (Imperial) OR 14.2 MPG (US).

In a word, short trips BAD. Long trips on highway GOOD.

I just bought a 2011 quad cab sport and the first week I drove about 800 miles on a trip and averaged 20 mpg empty, just me in it. Two weeks later, I installed a K&N CAI, drove on another 600 mile trip and got an average of 20.1 mpg with myself, two dogs, and about 400 pounds of cargo in the bed. Around town, I'm getting about 14-15 mpg.

In 56000 kms of usage..I've averaged from a low of 12mpg around town to a high of 19.5 mpg on the highway and thats with cruise set at 110km and in the tow mode. I've come to this conclusion.. When it needs gas..I buy it...I enjoy driving it and when I want good gas milage..I drive my Accord..

Sorry buddy but its the nature of this beast..when you have horses. you need to feed them.. more horses= more feed...lol..
