Default Custom Order Questions

Hey guys
I bought a 2010 1500SLT with Rambox 4 months ago. Love the truck!
I wanted the 2500 HD Diesel at the time and they did not offer the rambox on the 2500. So lo and behold the outdoorsman comes out and offers the 2500 with Rambox. Who wants to buy a really mint 1500 with 10,000miles on it?

The question. If you are going to order a truck from Chrysler and not off the lot do you get the ability to order exactly the options you want or are you still stuck to ordering the whole option bundles such as "lighting Group and Technology group" etc?

I would like to have a truck built to my exact spec and not pay for the options I really don't want. Is this possible?

Paul

there may soon be a return to the old way of getting what you want, more & more people have asked all the car manufacturers & other products as well, to give them a list of your needs & get just what your needs are & not the other bling that you may not need

the only problem is the product may end up costing more than the current way of doing it.

If you were to order a fleet model truck, which is a very basic vehicle, then start adding the things that you want, you may see how much it would cost to do it that way

Corporate runs the show; Dealers hands are pretty much tied. They got bean counters and number crunchers who figure out what to offer to maximize profits. To answer your question, you would need a "friend" in corporate who can authorize a "special order". Sometimes Regional Managers may have the pull to do it. Sometimes Dealers are well connected and can get you something that's not on the menu. But that is the exception rather than the rule. My Dad retired from Chrysler back in the 90's, but he has passed since. Fortunately I have the family member discount and I just recently ordered a 2011 Ram RT. But even I had to use the menu!

I have yet to see a pic of a 2500 with a ram box. I googled it and could not find one there. All the 1500's have it. Thats weird if it is a standard feature for an outdoorsman

polvoson, see if your local dealership has what is called a
FLEET/INTERNET salesman & do all your ordering through them, they don't get a commission like the other sales people do & they don't run into the managers office to get everything OKed, ( actually i think that they are just going for coffee when they say that), the Fleet/Internet sales person does not haggle, you get the basic price, no matter what options you order, you get it as low as they can make it, they mostly do business on the phone or online, no pushy sales person

Just type into google, your dealership name & Fleet / Internet Manager

Just ordered an Regular cap, long bed Outdoorsman. Wanted a Big Horn, but couldn't get it in a long bed. There were a lot of options I want but could not get, no matter the cost. Wanted the chrome that came on the SLT, but if I added what I "could" get from the Outdoorsman's I would have more in it that what I paid and get less. Wanted the dual's with the cut out bumper, but no. Couldn't even get heated seats. Came close to not even buying one. 6 to 8 week for the truck and I'm buying the things I wanted off eBay and the net.Guess I will have to put the duals on myself.

Thank god for the aftermarket. The ability to only buy 'packages' is VERY annoying and it's why I won't buy new.

When I bought my 97 Ram I special ordered it and got exactly what I wanted. Of coarse it was rather easy since they didn't have the huge amount of options that they do today. Most vehicle companies are now going the package route. Sometimes it works out good, sometimes not so good. When I got my Mustang in 09 I got the packages and wound up with everything I wanted. The new 11 Mustangs have all the things I got attached to so many different packages that you wind up with lots of stuff you don't want. So I lucked out. I can tell you from experience that when they used to do every item individually it was very tiring and laborious experience. When my parents ordered a 75 Pontiac Catalina from the factory I remember sitting in the office listening to the sales guy running down the options bored out of my head. "A/C, yes, auto, yes, light in ash tray, yes, side trash container, yes, radial suspension, yes, power steering, yes, power brakes, yes. It went on like that for an hour.

I custom ordered my 2011.
It took me 4 to 6 weeks to figure out what packages I had to order just to get the options I really wanted.
I think I drove the salesman crazy with my visits and emails.
In the end, I ended up with a bunch of stuff I did not want, but I got the truck as close as I could get it.
It's been 6 weeks and I do not have a production date as of yet.
