Default Nitrogen?

Dealers and tire places around here push nitrogen fills on the tires.

So, what is the advantage of paying for nitrogen?
Does it affect TPMS?

Thanks. Being a SCUBA diver I am aware of our air being 78% nitrogen and that's one of the reasons I asked the question. Plus I did a search and didn't find the question being asked recently.

It shouldn't effect the TPMS . I think it's a waste of money . Stick with regular air .

I work at a tire shop! as for the benefits...i dont think they are there, stick with regular air....its worked for 100 years i don't think its going to fail us now...plus air is 78% nitrogen anyways sooo whats a few more percentage going to do?

Also a PITA if your TPMS light comes on. I recently had a low tire pressure light come on, since the gas stations here don't have nitrogen, I took it to the dealer. They corrected the pressure in all my tires free of charge. But it's still a PITA!!!

Claims better mpg due to keeping pressure in the tire. Claims to not wear out the tire on the inside. Claims to not be as susceptible to temp changes.

Ok, being in a province that is affected by temperature changes worse than a mood swing of a pregnant woman, they tried to push nitrogen in a huge way. My brother made the change in his '05. He DOES say that there is less change due to temperature, and he checks regularly cuz he's anal like that. But he also has to keep a N2 recharge kit in his truck ($35) in case he needs to top up or try to re-inflate a low tire. Also, if you're the type (like me) that airs down for larger tire patch on icy roads then nitrogen is NOT for you.

It is more expensive to maintain, and you can't just fill it up anywhere.
