I've been wondering what that was! Ever since I installed my K&N Cold air intake (highly reccomended) I have been hearing that.
Its not that annoying to me, at least I know what it is.
Anyone know of the best perf chip?
Thanks!

I never ran with the MDS on so I don't know. I had a 4.7L before i upgraded to a hemi. and had a superchips already so first thing i did to the hemi was use the superchips. But with that said without MDS on best I've seen is 19.3 according to the truck. thats between 60-75mph driving the I-10 through el paso. once I hit the open desert hightway.....well we won't talk about that.....I have that lead foot disease I hear Hemi owners are prone to contract. In a full size cc or qc I dunno the difference lol. 19.3 to me is awesome.

I used the MDS trick to run in 4wd most of today since the weather here in Maine was really bad. I had alot of miles to run around today to the VA for dr appt and some shopping that needed to get done. I honestly can say after locking it out that it was a safer ride in the blowing snowstorm we had today. I noticed less slip on icy conditions IMO with it locked out to keep throttle more fluid and less kicking in and out with the slow driving (this was way more obvious when I was in 2wd at times). Thanks for the tip it works for me. I did not do the mileage since I used 4wd most of the day and even though I did not see alot of fuel consumption, (compared to running alot of miles in my 2010 2500 HD, can almost watch the guage move ), I am guessing it was not 20 mpg

on the highway the mds on my truck doesnt come on when im going faster than 85 km/h ( about 51 mph ) just wondering if this is normal as i usually drive about 105 kmh ( 63 mph ). acording to evic i get about 15 mpg at this speed on cruse control. my truck has 600k on it and i also hear mileage will get better as the engine breaks in. any thoughts / opinions ?

I thought that as well Polaris but I paid closer attention to the sound of my truck since Im familiar with the hemi (this is my second 4th Gen one) and you can feel it when the engine is not working to roll down the highway. The kick down response is just a whisper slower as well. It is not enough to make a dif its still the baddest truck on the road.

Have you seen the posts in this thread about using your gear selector switch to go from "D" drive to your top gear of "5" or "6" depending on what model truck you have? Of course you'll have to do this everytime after you put the gear selector in park or turn off the engine. A tuner will keep MDS turned off, but as the posts here indicate, there is no tuner for the '11 or '12 yet. All that said, I see you have a diesel. Are you asking about this truck in your profile or a gas hemi with MDS?

I have the same reaction as hckrphl; how in the hell do you get that sort of mileage? I tried driving a whole freakin tank like some old lady driving to church and the best I've gotten is 16.5. There are times when it might go to 17 or maybe nudge 18, but it always goes back down. I will say that most of my recent driving has been in townn, but taking off slowly from lights, trying like hell to keep the ECO icon on....I still get lousy mileage. Maybe it's a break-in thing, but even so, it should be getting better mileage.

Regardless....I love the truck and the other attributes outweigh the lousy mileage, unless gas hits $5 a gallon....then I'll be driving less. This time I filled with 91 octane to see if higher octane has any effect....not so far. Actually I think I did better with the 87...but the jury is out on this till I go thru the whole tank. Last tank using 89 octane averaged 12.5. I saw a little improvement when I put on a cab high camper shell....I guess the aerodynamics of the shell helped it slice thru the air with less resistance.

Wow I started this topic years ago when I first got my tuck. I still have it and just turned 125000 miles. Its still getting good gas mileage tires pumped up to 50psi and driving 68mph.

2006 monster mile number 17 of 50.
