Default mygig vs aftermarket

I have a 09 ram and I am planning on adding navigation to it. I have the alpine speaker system as well. I was wondering which is a better choice, go with the mygig or buy an aftermarket one. I understand i need the adapter to have the wheel buttons work and thats ok with me. If going aftermarket is a better route which is the best head unit to go with. Also I have seen on the posts that there is modification necessary to install some aftermarket head units.

I personally think that you get more bang for the buck with an aftermarket unit, such as the new Clarion or some of the Pioneer units. MyGig is nice but it's very costly. And frankly, the Uconnect system sucks.

The bluetooth functions, NAV interface & GUI and the options available on aftermarket units are superior, IMHO. In fact, Daniel (chithead) who is one of our audio gurus here, and I were talking about this last night.

This is just my two cents worth but if I were be looking to upgrade to a NAV system with full audio accessory functions, I'd go aftermarket. You can integrate such a unit with some simple adapters.

I was just doing some research on this as well and came across this unit. Kenwood DNX6160 because it uses the Garmin based NAV (superior to NAVTEQ). I would get the steering wheel control adapter and am debating if I should just not get the Sirius tuner (never cared for it and the stations here are fine). The Kenwood rear view camera would be another plus for me. http://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-DNX716.../dp/B003FR7XYQ
