Talking Media Center Backup Camera

Hey Everyone,

I recently have been thinking about getting the Media Center 730N installed in my 2010 dodge Ram 1500. I currently have the stock radio I think its the 130. (posted a picture in the attachments)

Is the best place to get this done at the dealership? If so has anyone had this done before? I would like to know how much it will come out to(general Idea).
Also I might get the backup camera done while they are doing that since they are working on it anyway. Any thoughts?

And does the 730N have a Nav system?

Thanks! If anyone has a General Idea of what this all would cost I would appreciate it. And any reviews of the devices would be awesome also.

-Mike

Lot of folks have done their own install but if you're not up to that kind of thing, have the dealer do it. Getting the camera is a good idea. I have both the camera and sensors, love that set up.

As for the Nav, don't get it. The Nav for the 2010's and older is a P.O.S. Just go buy a hand-held Garmin and a mount. It will save you a ton of $$ in the process.

ok. Now when you say don't get the nav you just mean don't activate the Navigation system right? I should still get the 730N right? isn't that required for the backup camera?

you can also see the users manuals

You can get the RBZ radio which has the display and does not have the Nav. The alone will increase the cost of the Dodge radio around $500 - $1000.

As GT said there are plenty of display type radios out there.

I currently own a 2010 with the NAV/Camera, 10 speakers and sensors. The stereo is the best stock stereo I have ever heard. (I've owned a LOT of vehicles even several Infinities 2005 and 2008 and I thought they had decent Bose systems, but this one is WAY better). The NAV is okay, I've had better, but it's not bad. I'd rather have this stock NAV than a handheld Garmin (which I also own) anyday. But this comes down to preference too. The Stock camera beats all camera's Ive had in the past (light gathering, view distance, color) except for one area; The Infinity camera would turn virtual lines in accordance with where you turn your wheel while backing up. This Dodge unit is just a camera, and that messed my wife up enough so she no longer uses the camera for backing up. She had that Infinity one down pat, knowing just where her wheels would end up. Pretty slick actually, even though I didn't/don't use them for anything but distance, at the last second, in either my two Dodges or her Infinities.
I hope this helps a bit. Dealer installed may cost a bit, but they have two thisngs going for them; they know the systems better than most so that could actually SAVE a bit of money, and they have to make sure it's working seamlesly as it's a Dodge component and they have to back that up 100%. And no chance of them blaming another unrelated issue on a faulty camera/NAV install by someone else!

Thanks a lot. I am the same way, I only plan on using the backup camera for last second distance. Sometimes when I'm really close it would be nice to have the camera. I'll give the dealership a call and see what it would come out to.

I have a media center 430 RBZ--no Nav. but I do have back up sensors on the truck. My dealer to me it would be $750.00 for the back up camera installed. The RBZ screen would display the camera.

Mine was ~$800 installed for the 430N. Also adding bluetooth (it is the law here in Oregon) and backup camera...it was $1600 for all three of those installed.
