Default factory or cheap aftermarket head unit and front door speakers

My OEM CD unit stopped playing Cd's around a year ago. The front passenger speaker is blown and i have not had an antenna for 3 years so as you can tell, audio is not really a mod i have focused on or interested in modding.

I would like to listen to Cd's again so i am looking for a cheap head unit. I can deal with buying a used factory one again but i would like to maybe play mp3 Cd's as well.
Nothing fancy just a unit to play CD/mp3 and local radio stations.
Recommendations please?

I would like to replace my front speakers as well. I don't mine just replacing the passenger if need be but maybe there are a good cheap alternative out there for what i am looking for which then i can switch out both sides.

I am not looking for any Reference AQ or doing a blow through in the bed or anything. Just something to listen to music when driving to and from work.

Thanks.

You can buy better than factory stuff at Walmart without breaking the bank. I don't think you can get a CD head unit nowadays that won't do MP3's. I'd bet you can get what you're looking for and spend less than $250. I use the USB drive in my Alpine (I don't have any CD's in my truck anymore). In the long run, it's cheaper than burning CD's and I can add or remove tracks as I see fit.

Agree with RamTech, I got a Sony head unit on Amazon for about $100. Another $30 for harness and dashplate. About an hour to install. Definitely get one with a USB port on the front. I also use flash drives to take my music with me, alot easier than CD's. I've got around 50 CD's on one 8mb stick. Also, alot cheaper to replace a flash drive than an IPod in case someone breaks into your truck.

I agree with the above suggestions, but would advise thinking twice of dealercostcaraudio.com - they definitely have a horrible rep at a few audio forums I frequent.

DIYMA, Sonic Electronix, and eBay have been my friends when trying to find better than average components for the best price.

USB access would be great. Do you have a link or your Alpine?

Aftermarket is always the way to go unless you have Bose.

I'd say that one of the better bang for the buck head units comes from Alpine. And their speakers are bad. A better choice, IMHO, are the Infinity Reference Series speakers. Both the Alpine and Infinity gear works great and don't break the bank. And they last!

Good luck with your choice and let us know what you end up doing!

I bought my Alpine CDA-105 locally and managed to talk them down on the price. I gave $169 for it at best Buy.
