Default Gas mileage again...

Hey guys,

I noticed someone posted on another thread they are getting 10l per 100 km average gas mileage (up here in canada eh). That equates 10km per litre or 23.5 miles per gallon. Seems too good to be true.

My new truck, only has 9,200 km, blended city, highway and towing mixed, I am getting on average per EVIC around 15.5l - 100km, 6.67 km/l or 15.17 miles/gallon.

I have a tonneau cover, running the 3.55 gear ratio, I would expect to get at least average fuel consumption....seems like I am a bit low, and 10km-l or 23.5m-gal, no way I will ever get that!!

I know it is early in the game, but thought I would pick others brains as to what to expect for longer term gas mileage.

Thanks much!!

Hey Musky bait,
I have about 18,000 km on mine and the EVIC is reading 15.2L per 100km. That is with a little more city then highway, because we have been putting around town with lately and not as much as highway communting driving then normal. When I was communting with it everyday and had more highway driving, it was around 12.8.

The best I ever seen it when it was new and I drove more like an old man was like 11.2.

Mind you, I have twice reset the average mileage calculator, once because my friend accidentally reset it, and the other because we finished a long trip with our travel trailer and it was reading 24L per 100km

Maybe try reseting yours and see if it improves? I suspect the mixed towing is what keeps it high

Since I went to public schools in the US, I have no idea what your measurements mean. <<< Embarassing...
Nevertheless, I can tell you that I averaged about 18.4 mpg with the stock tires and now average about 17 with the larger ones (35"x12.5"). This is average. In town I'm looking at about 12-13.

In comparison, my old truck (a 2007 No-Fear Titan with a 6" lift and 35" tires) averaged about 13-14 mpg, and about 9-10 in town.

Do your calc by hand, do not trust the computer. Two fillups should do it. And stop on first or second click each time to be fair. Whatever that comes out to, is what it is. Even if you were hoping for more (like I always do).

Muskybait, I reside in Ontario here too and if I'm not mistaken, when your converting litres per 100 kilometers, to MPG, your converting to US MPG, reading elsewhere on the forum if you divide 292.5 by your litres per 100 km, you will arrive at the canadian MPG, you might be pleasantly surprised what you are getting here in canada.

I filled up last night and the mileage computed to 16.8 MPG the EVIC matched that too...susprisingly. That's a mix of 50/50 Hwy/City.

The truck has the 32 gallon tank option and it took 28 gallons to fill it. It was very low since the EVIC showed Distance To Empty at 30 miles. I guess there is a 4 gallon reserve with these. I've found that when the pump light comes on it takes 26 gallons to fill it.

I've also found that the mileage and performance improves if you use mid grade over regular but using premium gained nothing.

Otter,

I use an online converter to do the calcs:

http://www.easysurf.cc/cnver4.htm#mgkl2

I believe it already converts to US gallons.

Average of 10 lit/100kms combined city/highway no way that can be true. I have not reset my Evic since May and it is reading 17 lit/100kms. I also have a record of every fillup on a spreadsheet and it is showing 16.4 lit/100km since I drove it off the lot. I have seen the EVIC as low as 11.5 lit/100kms for highway only so the average of 10 sounds fishy IMHO.
