Default Are 4x4 & 4x2 Blocks The Same?

I have a 06 4X4 and need to replace the engine.

It is a vin 2 truck, I'm not sure what that means.

I have been looking on-line for rebuilt engines. Some site differentiate between 4X4 & 4X2.

Is there really a difference?

What do I need to look for, be aware of.

Thanks for any help.

Engine is the same between 2wd and 4wd. The only thing drive train related is the transmission, 2wd will have a tailshaft and the 4wd will have a transfercase.

You can use any 06-08 Ram 1500 engine (straight drop in). 05-08 LX engine will also work, but you'll have to swap oil pan/dipstick/front cover for it to work.
