How many miles do you have on it ? Bearing failure , broken fork etc ... It sounds like it may be time to pull it . Stop by the newbie section and introduce yourself .

if its a top loader, i would pull the floor panel if it has one, then take off the top transmission plate, you will likely find that the shifter fork is broken or bent

Before you drop the trans is there a way to check to make sure the shifter isn't broken on the outside?

if the shifter handle goes directly into the top of the transmission, that is called a top loader
if it goes through the floor & mounts on the transmission & has linkage that connects to the side of the transmission, that is referred to as a side loader

most top loader transmissions have a large access panel in the cabs floor, but, maybe the truck that you have doesn't. The access panel would almost be the size of your
shoe

i am not sure but, you may have a NV4500 transmission, made by New Venture

http://quad4x4.com/Dodge%2094-04%20NV4500.htm here is a good view & more info on it http://www.nv4500.com/

hopefully you don't have a GETRAG transmission http://www.drivetrain.com/parts_cata...ustration.html

NV4500's are great replacement in older trucks with 4 speeds, plus it is also a popular replacement for 5 speed transmissions used in newer trucks. If you happen to have a Dodge 3/4 or 1 ton truck with one of the weak GETRAG transmissions, then the NV4500 transmission is the answer to your problem. . The NV4500 has stronger gears, better case and improved bearings, plus it evens allows you to retain your stock clutch setup!
