Default Something going on with my transmission?

I tried searching for something on here....but found nothing. So here is my issue....maybe its supposed to be this way....maybe not?

I have noticed lately, when turning right or left and pushing the accelerator down I've noticed that my truck seems to get sluggish like it doesn't want to go, then boom all the sudden it will take off after a few seconds.

I wondered if it was something to do with the torque converter or something. Or maybe the truck is set up this way to not spin the tires when trying to take off too fast with the front wheels turned.

I also notice it when in my driveway...its not real steap...but a deffinet incline. If I stop and then try to go forward again in my driveway, I accelerate but it seems like it takes it a few feet to kick in and go with as much force as I have accelerated.

Not sure if I'm explaining this right....but I can't figure any other way to explain it.

Any info would be great.

Thanks

It could be many different things, and I'm sure that someone with a lot more knowledge than I will jump in here with an opinion.

could you're traction control (what's it called ESP or something like that?) kicking in? when you're accelerating out of curves? I've noticed this a time or tow on mine.

As for it being sluggish when first starting out.... someone on here said that only about 40-50% max power is available in 1st gear, so that may be what you're experiencing.

good luck

Exco

Yeah, I personally think the downshifts are a little slow and soft but they're probably set that way for economy. Also, if you're coming out of MDS just as you're going to downshift, there's a little more lag.

On the hill - could be your hill assist kicking in (if you have that feature) - I don't feel that it's intrusive at all, but maybe you're feeling the brakes let go as you depress the accelerator?

Now that I think about it, its always after I slow down or stop and turn one way or the other. Like taking off at intersections when turning left or right, and usually it is on an incline when I notice it. Maybe it is something with hill assist.

Yeah, if you're on a little bit of a grade (going uphill in drive, or downhill in reverse), push the brake. Then (carefully), let up and push down again - you'll feel a solid brake pedal. That's the hill assist feature -

Enable or disable through the evic -

Brakes will let off in conjunction with throttle being depressed.

But again, I think the downshifts are a bit lazy. If I didn't have the lifetime max care warranty, I'd probably do a tuner and firm those up a bit.

Thumbs down

I'd say what you're feeling is torque management. Dodge limits the power available to you in first gear. I guess they feel we're not capable of handling all that hemi power and will lose control, WTF? Thats why a diablo and custom tune will probably be in my not to distant future LOL!

Hillstart Assist... in my opinion, its pretty much useless with an automatic transmission. Just another feature and un-needed expense we are forced to pay for, and it also is causing more of the "dumbing down of americans" on how we drive automatic shift vehicles. If it were my truck (and i DO have "H-S-A" in my truck = turned off), go into the EVIC and disable it. I can understand haveing it in a standard shift trans, but useless otherwise and causing more grief than its worth by haveing it activated in a auto trans truck. (unnessesary added wear and tear on trans and brakes) Here we go AGAIN with poor sales personal at the dealership for NOT properly describeing the features on a new vehicle, but they got your money though, didnt they.

Thought it DOES keep the brakes "short term" applied at up hill grade stops, i dont think this guys problem is with the hillstart assist feature. These electronic auto trans today have alot of delay time before they can react to driver scenerio. Its gonna take time to get use to it...drive it, and deal with it.

For those of you that think hill start assist stays on until you press gas pedal, go try this.... (with hillassist on) stop on a hill, apply brakes, let off, do not touch gas pedal, truck starts to roll rearward within a few seconds. It only stays on just about long enough for you to get to your gas pedal and thats it. It has nothing to do with hitting the gas pedal to de-activate it. And for the "NAY" sayers saying i`m wrong, please take into consideration too, that some of the trucks may have longer or shorter delay`s programmed into the trans computor for hill start assist. No 2 trucks are the same, they ALL will have slight variances, just nature of the electronic beasts.
