Default muffler only made for 5.7 hemi

i have had trucks before with performance mufflers on them most recently my 2003 dodge dakota 4.7 which had a flowmaster. well when i bought my 2006 5.7 hemi ram i was told that flowmaster has a muffler designed for that engine called the 50 hd flowmaster. i called flowmaster up and spoke to the tech dept and they confirmed that is true . they stated that the 50 hd will get you the most performance out of all of there other mufflers as long as you have a 5.7 hemi engine. if you install any other flowmaster muffler on to the 5.7 hemi they said there dyno have shown a decrease in performance. flowmaster stated that the engineers put a lot of time in this 50 hd muffler.

So the Representative stated the 50hd specific 5.7L Ram muffler outperforms the rest of the FM line? Could be true as folks who have them love them.

yes he did state that the flowmaster 50 hd did out perform there other line up of flowmaster mufflers. i wanted to buy the same muffler that i had on my 2003 dodge dakota 4.7 which i think it had a 40 or 44 series muffler and put it on my dodge ram 5.7 hemi but the engineer from flowmaster said i would lose performance by putting any other muffler on unless it was the 50 hd which was designed for the 5.7 hemi .

wow talk about false advertisement! they always have "higher performance" marks plastered everywhere!

my personal opinion is don't get flowmaster at all if your looking for performance. They have been tested on flowbenches to perform worst than most anybody in the market. I would suggest the aeroturbine 3030xl as it is a straight through muffler and WILL provide the best performance because it doesn't have any type of baffling. BAFFLING leads to BACKPressure=less power on any new motor. the idea is to get the fastest flowing capability.

plus the at3030xl kinda sounds like the 50hd. i actually love how it sounds which is why it's on the christmas list to replace my current dumped fm40.

hey , i,m only telling you what the engineer said to me and feel free to call them and they will tell you the same thing ! i have no benifit in lying to anybody about this i'm just relaying some info that was told to me that i did not even know! maybe the muffler you are talking about is not designed for a specific engine but a more performanced engine with alot of engine mods. some mufflers are not street legal because of the noise they make.

bro i wasn't getting on to you, i was just saying that fm blows a bunch of hot air about their mufflers. thats all! .. haha. we all appreciate hearing what manufacturers say and what they "guarantee" as opposed to what they advertise.

no the at3030xl says it was specifically designed for the 5.7, is def street legal, and like i said is an all performance muffler. it's predecessor, the at3030 is used on the rolex series racing cars...hmm...wonder why? haha.

but no, mufflers aren't effected to engine mods, they are what they are and considering its a straight through muffler, it unhinders any upstream headers so flow is maximum.

give flowmaster a call and ask them . i had the 40 series on my dakota and loved the way they sounded but they said if i were to put those on my ram 5.7 hemi i would take away from the performance of the 5.7 hemi . the engineer stated that the 50 hd flowmaster was designed for the 5.7 hemi for performance .

So is the flowmaster 50 hd that much different than the Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow? When I bought my truck it had the Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow on it and that was not loud enough for me. So i took off the resonators and put on the Flowmaster Super 44. I did not nitice any change in power between the 2. And that is going from a 3 chamber to a 2 chamber muffler. Only thing that changed was the sound.
