Default Uconnect Hard Drive Help

I have a 2010 Laramie with the 30G harddrive. I am having trouble loading songs onto. I have Itunes which I use to download music and have moved the songs to an external hard drive. When I plug it into the USB port on the truck it says its not an approved device or something to that effect. Not sure if its the fact thats its an external hard drive and not a thumb drive or what? Any ideas?

I use a 4G thumb drive and it works perfectly. And I use iTunes (which I HATE) to pull the songs from. So it's probably the drive your using. Is it a laptop or desktop type external drive? That could be the issue since it may need more power than the truck's USB can deliver. Not all USB's are the same in that regard. Thumb drives take very little power and almost always work on this situations. Hope that helps!

Its just an 80G external drive that I back up my pictures and music and stuff to. But that would make sense then if they take more power, I never thought of that.

iPods and thumb drives work well. I have an external hd for back-up too and its a power hog. Haven't tried to connect it to my truck, but I doubt it would work.
