Default bushwacker fender flares

question for you guys. My friend has a 2004 f150 and he has the bushwacker fender flares and i really like how they look. SO, i was considering getting them for the Ram and the other day he pulled one of his off to show me something and there is a line that lines up perfectly with the edge of the fender flare. The edge rubbed right through the paint and caused a rust spot. have any of you ladies/fellas had any issues with this and if so, do you know of a fix so that it wont happen to me?

I was kind of thinking of putting a bead of clear silicone on the edge of the fender flare so that it wont touch the body of the truck but not sure if it would seat right then.

That's the problem with aftermarket flares. You could use the silicon or go with a very narrow strip of double sided sticky tape. An aftermarket or accessory flare, even some of the OEM ones, will rub on the paint and they can also trap moisture, cause rust through problems.

Gotta love the look though.

hmmm...ok then. I do love the look but I dont know if i love the look enough to possibly cause some major rust through problems.

Before you give up on it entirely, talk to some of your truck accessory and 4X4 shops in the area. They may have some tips and tricks they've learned to avoid the damage.
