Question CAI or open round performance air cleaner

Well guys that is my question I have a 1995 1500 shorty 5.9 What is the diff if I run a CAI or an open round cleaner in my opinion the round would be better for less restriction on intake of air more air, more power. Yes I know you have more of a chance getting water, mud in the intake but if your powering through sluddge and not trying to fly through it no problem. Also it is a heck of alot cheaper. Just an opinion any input?

Thanks

I love my 14x3 and prefer it to the FIPK I had.
However I would suggest running some lind of prefilter like the dirt track guys use to help keep the mud and water more at bay.

Hay that a good idea never thought of that cost is still down and it still keeps air flow. IMO I like the open better then the CAI I think they look better and your still getting the same results also you dont have this big A-- pipe under the hood.

I like the idea of the open round filter with a pre-filter over it!

I agree with the cost point of view!

BUT - What about the hot air temps from under the hood - wont this rob some of the power? Just wondering.

I agree with TLars, your not gonna get any power gains drawing in all that hot under hood air. If price is an issue, you can build a CAI out of PVC pipe. Someone here already built one, maybe one of the moderators? I saw it a couple months ago on RAMFORUMZ. You may get the sound of all that air moving into the engine with the open air cleaner when you punch it but, They call them CAI's for a reason.
