Exclamation Lack of Power and Performance Issue

Hello everyone, A few days ago I came across a rare find, a 1999 Dodge Ram Sport, single Cab 4x4. Its not too bad for the year, low miles (131xxx) Evrything works great, however like anything you first buy it almost always has some issues. Ive drove a few of the Ram 1500s with the 5.9 L V8 Motors and they get up and haul! But mine...seems to have poor acceleration more like what I would expect out of an old 318 motor. Now Im just looking for some advise here, I plan to put new Plugs, wires and fuel injector cleaner in it and see if that takes care of the issue, but would anyone on here do something in addition to that? And would that take care of the check engine light that suddenly came on last night? Thanks for any Help you can offer! (Sorry if my posts are not perfect, Im new to Forums in general and havent been on this one very long. lol)

hey man im kinda new to..... i'm on my 3rd dodge right now...........i would do everything your doing just because it's got some miles and it would be a good idea do it even if it wasn't running bad...... i would also go get the codes pulled to see cause that might answer your question...... i would also put a new fuel filter in....... i would also use some Lucas injector cleaner they make a good product. hey once you try some of this or find out what the codes are let me know and i can try to help you figure this out cause i have several ideas of what it may be but narrowing down is what you have to do. i was a mechanic for years till i got laid off now i just do work on the side. you may also want to start running a heavier weight oil in it as well like a 5w40 it will be thicker on start up and when cold but when it warms up it will provide better lubrication especially for a higher mileage motor. also a seafoam clean out may help hey just privat msg me or email if i can help

intake plenum gasket, clean the TB, clean or replace the EGR valve and clean the fuel system would all be things to do.

Check the plugs for condition and proper gap.

I'd get the code scanned to find out what it is. Any national brand auto parts store will do that for you for free.

I'm still trying to find the fuel filter on a '99! Might be a good idea to have the pressure and flow checked though!

Okay, Will do! Probably start all of that this Saturday due to the Holiday and such! And for future references, I am by no means a mechanic. lol I will get back to everyone after I do these things and once I get the codes I will message them and see what we can come up with. Thank you very much for your time and help everyone! =D

It is ram 98. I have a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9L in it and I did the fuel pump replacement myself. If you try finding a fuel filter your going to be searching a long time becuase it don't exist. Well it does, but it's part of the fuel pump assembly there isn't one on the fuel lines.

About how much does a fuel pump/assembly cost used or new? And not knowing alot about mechanics, is it something I could do easily and how long did it take you to do yours when you did it?
