Default Snow tires/wheels

This is a newbie question as I've never owned a 4 x 4 before. Should I be looking at putting 4 new snow tires and rims on my 2010 Sport or can I get away with only 2. The other discussions on snow tire sizes have been helpful but I haven't seen any answers to this one. Thanks.

Depending on your conditionsthroughout the year, your stockers could be just fine. I've driven many a winter in BC with all seasons. That being said, snow rated winters are without a doubt the best way to go, I just recently purchased some hakkapallita's for mine.
If you are going to go snow tires, do all four. Otherwise how do you choose? Good traction or good steering??

I found the standard goodyear hp's terrible in the snow.

I just brought blizzacks from kal tire and are really impressed.
If I lived on the flat I might have stayed on the hp's but it's to hilly in kamloops and I felt unsafe on the hp's. Trouble is now winters upon us in bc. The availability of winters is already low

If you go with snows, please do all 4....but if you must...be damn sure they go on the back wheels! I can't believe how many people think snows on the front wheels are safe! What happens if you hit the brakes and the front tires have more stopping friction than the back tires....that's right...your back tires will keep sliding and pass the front tires! Always have equal or greater friction on the rear tires (FWD/RWD/4WD doesn't matter)! If you doubt me, take a few zips around the skid pad at your local winter driving course.

Also, I believe the factory 17" tires are M&S Rated. I'm going to stick with the factory tires for this winter and see how it goes.

I'd do all 4 but that's just me. If you need 4X4, doesn't make sense to have the same amount of traction?

The Blizzaks are a great snow tire. I've used them in the past.

In the past I have had a set of winter wheels and tires for all my rigs. I have a set of winter wheels for the RAM...need some tires I guess...LOL

all my vehicles have another set of 4 rims with winters mounted. doesn't matter if fwd, rwd,or 4x4. night and day differance. traction is better, but braking and steering are much much better. if you have to ask the question should I, then why take the chance. my wife drives the truck mostly and I want her to be as safe as possible.

I bought 4 Hankook RW11's 275/60/20 for 865$ Canadian tax in.
And today for the first time I got to try them out in the snow.
I came to a snow covered intersection where I had to turn left and I could see that a few people had slid and hit the curb in the middle of the road. So I thought this was the perfect place to test the brakes. The ABS kicked in and kept me going in a straight line. stopped me pretty fast, As for traction..... in 4X4 auto. no problems there with these tires.
I say 4 winter tires is the way to go. I think all of Canada should follow Quebec's law and make winter tires mandatory, It will save lives.
