Default Bed sizes?!?!?

Ok guys I know this may seem like a retarded question, but I at least need to ask for myself before I attempt this. Our trucks came with either a short bed or a reg. bed right. The reason behind me asking is, I'm lookin in to a tonneau cover for my Indy but the guy says it came off a 98 shortbed. I personally dont think 2 years is gonna make a difference figuring the truck he pulled it from was a 98 shortbed and my truck is a 96 shortbed. Any input/thoughts guys or gals? Figured if I didnt have to spend the close to 1200 a company wants for one and could find one on the net then I would go for it but a 6 hour drive needs to be worth it. Thanks for any info.

Im sure you can look up other models of 96 and 98 shortbeds and see if they use the same products such as camper shells or other tonneau covers.. use the internet and the companies who make parts for such. They will list them together if they are compatible.

Seeing that the 96-98 are the same generation truck. Im pretty sure the bed sizes are the same unless one is a stepside vs a regular bed. Good luck.

I was pretty much thinkin the same thing, But the one i found is like 5 hours away and i dont want to spend a day driving to come back empty handed. But if I actually get it, hell it beats 1500 for one new!

Dodge mega cabs bed is 6'4" the same as a dodge quad cab short bed.

A mega cab is built by taking a quad cab 8' long bed frame. They remove the long bed and put on a standad 6'4" short box and then elongate the cab.

There is a myth that a mega cab bed is shorter, this is not true. they are identical to a quad cab, and share the same id numbers this was confirmed at my local dodge dealership.

Also we confirmed this by taking a cap off a 2007 quad cab and put it on my 2006 mega cab and it fits pefectly.
