Default Oil?

What say the consensus to this...
The other day I was getting oil change supplies and asked the
Counter guy what he knew about oil. He asked why and I told
Him about the ramster using oil and so on. All he could
Guess at was that I was using the wrong oil. In short the oil I was
Using was sludging up and that was why I was always showing
Low on the dip stick after 300 to 400 miles.

I'm no rocket scientist but I really doubt that that was or is the
Issue. Anyone know or have an opinion about the wrong grade or
Type oil and that oil causing a 318 to burn oil or use excessive oil that can not
Be counted for?

Yeah the plenum is beat to death. But I am stil suffering some oil usage which may be a head or worse. In this thread I am just thinking out loud...

Right now with a 10-30 aqfter a oil change it appears to not to be using oil and smoking.

what kind of oil are you using? i doubt the oil sludging up is the issue, but i have always used valvoline or havoline. never quaker state (or quaker sludge). havent really had an issue with it yet. just to be on the safe side, dump a bottle of sea foam in your oil...the whole thing, and drive it for about 150-200 miles. no it wont harm your motor over that short period of time, its a petrolium product so its not foreign, and you will be amazed at how black your oil is after you change it. also might want to check your valve cover and pan gaskets. i have to change my valve cover gaskets right now.

if you use any reputable oil & a quality oil filter, that is all you should need, i would suggest that you do NOT buy a cheap oil filter, you get what you pay for, WIX, NAPA, MOBILE ONE are all good quality oil filters, k & N is a great air filter
of course other brands will work, but, how good is the question

It could be an issue with worn valve guides/seals.

My favorite trick for any motor that uses oil is a little marvel mysterey oil. One cap full in each spark plug hole and a half quart in a tank of gas cleans everything right up with no adverse affects whatsoever. Ive heard great things about the seafoam but Ive used marvel since before annyone ever heard of seafoam.

Seafoam work get. I pore some in the throttle body while engine running(cool engine) let sit for about 5 min then drive, you'll see a lot of white smoke(burning off carbons) in your rear view also idles much smoother.
