Default oil change warning revisited....

Hi Folks,

Had my oil changed at dealer a few weeks back and they forgot to reset oil change indicator on EVIC.

Thanks to this forum I had the procedure to reset when I needed it most.

I took a trip down to Gettysberg to visit friends over thx giving weekend. On my way back home (Ajax, Ontario)stopped for gas in NY. After pumping restarted truck and tried to shift into gear, no go...would not shift.

Couldn't understand why the shift problems then it dawned on me. The oil change indicator had not been reset (my fault, should have done right after oil change but procastinated..).....I assume the computer won't allow to shift if it deems oil change over due...I remembered the procedure ( pumping gas pedal 3 times to reset...)....started her up and shifted no problem.

If my assumpiton is correct, remember to rest the Oil change message on EVIC ASAP to prevent the shift override.

Again I assume the shift override related to the oil change indicator. Please someone correct me if I am wrong about this.

Musky...

No, it won't prevent your truck from going into gear. For some reason it defaulted to neutral from what I can figure. I'm thinking maybe it was a problem with fluid pressure in the transmission. There was a problem with this in the '07 model that was corrected with a PCM flash but there's nothing about it for a 2010. Get it to a dealer and let them see if there are any trans codes stored.

Hi Randy,

Thanks for input.

So the oil change indicator reset has nothing to do with shifting.

Strange how things were fine after I did the procdure to reset oil change warning.

The shifter would slide over but not down......post procedure, no problem at all and has not been an issue since.

Thanks for tip. I will call dealer and see what they have to say.

Musky...

Whoa-ho! This raises a question I have. One morning I had a downright wrestling match with the shifter because I couldn't get it out of park. I really don't remember if I had my foot on the brake or not. After I ran out of English and cooled off a little I did something (I know not what) and the thing went right in gear.

I think that the standard procedure of always putting my foot on the brake is so ingrained in me that it would be next to impossible for me to fail to overlook it.

That said, I did say "next to impossible" - which is another way of saying I am getting older and believe me, things do change . . . never mind all that . . . here's the bottom line question: is there anything in the computer system that can lock the thing in park?

Thanks, Wes

You need to definitely hit the brake pedal first before touching the shifter . If you apply pressure to the shifter first then hit the brake pedal it still won't unlock .
