Default 2010 brake control caution

I purchased a new 2010, 1500 in March and installed an OEM brake controller myself and DID NOT have them install the software for the EVIC to recognize the brake controller. Dealer wanted to charge me and I declined. Well 3 wks after I purchased it I had a dead battery, they replaced my battery and off I went. 8 months later another dead battery. I don't drive this truck everyday however I am in and out of it getting things several times a day without running it and after 3-4 days the battery goes dead.
Dealer asked if I had added any after market accessories, which I didn't or I thought I didn't, turns out that because the brake control software was not installed the TPM new it was there because it was plugged in but couldn't find it because it wasn't really there in the software. Therefore the TPM kept searching for it and would run the battery dead over a couple of days.
So if you install a factory brake controller in your 2010 make sure you have the dealer also install the software for the EVIC to see it. Otherwise unplug it until you need to use it then plug it in, or if you use the truck everyday you should be ok.

Sorry that happened but good advice.

That is a lot of power draw to pull a perfectly good battery down in a couple of days...interesting. I installed mine on Saturday and haven't started it since and i haven't had the flash done. I will check my battery in the morning to see....

If the truck sits without you opening any doors you might be okay, my problem was that I was in and out of it and that kept waking the truck up so to speak and searching for the controller.

How hard was it to install the brake controller? How much did the dealer want to install the new software?

sounds to me that it is doing the same thing that my cell phone does,
16 miles up the major highway here, everyone loses signal for about 40 miles, the phone will keep searching for signal until it is completely dead

I think that i would be installing some kind of disconnect device, like a switch in the power line to it, if you don't want to pay for a computer flash or whatever it needs

The install wasn't bad and they charged me $100 for the upgrade. Your better off having the dealer install it that way it is a dealer installed accessory and you'll have the full warranty 3 yr- 36000 mile.

The dealer threw this out as an option, he suggested unpluging it until I wanted to use it.

I checked mine yesterday and the truck is fully charged and it hasnt been started since Saturday. So after sitting for 6 days, the battery is fine.
