Default Top Speed in 4x4 loc (high)

Hey Guys, what is the top speed you would say is safe for driving with the 4x4 system in high? I know in low its around 20mph, but i dont have the manual for my truck and don't know whats safe. I really don't want to break it....and also, what speeds are safe to switch into 4x4 high from 2 wd?

Any help would be great

Thanks
Keith

I think its up to around 100 kph/60mph, and the manual says not to engage it when going faster then 5mph

i wouldnt recommend leaving it on for a long time however as it will speed up diff wear and drivetrain wear

I am not sure what the correct answer is to that so I am not going to say anything. But i have gone 140 kph in 4 high and taken it out and went to 2 high, i have engaged it from 2 high to 4 high many many times at 30-50 kph and i recently changed the oil in the diffs and there was barley any metal and the oil was clean. If anyone can find out what the real speeds are that would be great. Ramtech do you know?

4 loc or 4hi can be used at hiways speeds. BUT if you need 4wd, the roads are not in good enough condition to be safely going that fast anyway.

Agree with RB...too many times 4wd gives a sense of invincibility. 4wd ain't gonna help you stop.

My owners manual says 35 mph for low range & 50mph for high, gives no mph for switching between 2&4 high, I've done it repeatedly at 45 and in over 100,000 miles haven't had any problems.

I routinely switch mine between 4 hi and 2 wheel drive at around 50 and have had no problem.
