Does no one seem a bit hesitant to just leave it in 5th and let the computer do the thinking for the tranny to shift?

I live in Alberta and drive to BC for work its all highway driving, my MDS only kicks in going downhill or if I am driving 60 MPH and no faster, which isnt the case the speed limit here is around the 75MPH mark.

Excellent! Only a month in, but easily the best tip that I've seen thus far. I'll keep track of mileage w/o MDS as well.

I do just that. Once I'm rolling away from my driveway I shift it into 5 and let it do what it's wants. But I don't see the point in MDS as it rarely kicks in and doesn't do anything for my mileage on my commute.

I have since used manual mode, so no MDS and I have jumped 1.5 MPG!

I tried this yesterday and it never hit MDS and seemed way more responsive. Also I noticed my mpg avg went up from 15.3 to 16.0 over a 60 mile mixed driving run (my usual) but that could be a coincidence.....my truck is coming up on 1K miles so is loosening up a bit which could account for the increase, but then again it could also be that I'm using Shell fuel as opposed to Holtzman (local distributor to my other gas station)......just telling it straight.
I am still a little bit confused. I have a 2012 can you explain how to do MDS. Do i sit in my drive way and change to manually mode and shift to 6 then push the sifter left then right?

I have an '12 column shift. The way I understand is use manual shift to get it in "6" on the dash indicator.

If you have console shift, maybe you have to tap the shifter twice to get it to show 6?

This is great..... I have been wanting to turn that stupid MDS off! I thought the only way to disable it was with a programmer. Easy habit to get into when shifting into gear. Thanks for the awesome info!!!

Default haven't read it all.....

Appologize if I missed something, as I read the first posts then skipped to almost the end. Today, on the highway, I was in "nothing" as ther was no gear in the EVIC. I then tapped it, and it went to 6, not 5. Only indication I got, the ECO went off. NOw that it is cold here in ohio, my mileage has gone to Poop. It has dropped about 1.5 MPG. I know this is partly because of the remote start to warm it, but it also, does not shift into hi, even after it is warmed up, for quite some time. The other day, I warmed it up, the heater was pujtting out, the guage was hot, and I drove 8 miles to the interstate, got on and it was still not in 6th. I know, because I did downshift, to 5th and the tach never wavered. Gonna take it to the dealer and see what he says.

Hey there. In my 2012 the Eco licht will come on in any gear and any speed if "conditions" are right. My truck will only go into 6th gear at 100 kph. I bought an "Ecometer" (Ram accessory brochure) and early impressions with it and playing with gear selector to disable MDS are that I use less fuel with MDS off unless I am coasting downhill. I have been playing with this since I got the Ecometer last week.
