Default Tire size

I want to know what the largest tire size is that I can put on my stock rims? I have 275 70 R17 on right now but they suck in snow so I am looking at putting on BF Goodrich A/T as I had those on my last truck and I was happy with them. I want larger tires for looks and I drive around on the frozen lakes in winter and on the logging roads the rest of the year. I'm not ready to put new rims on just yet. Thanks in advance for your advice.

I would think you could get a 285 section width tire on there with no problem with the stock wheels. A 70 series tire obviously works. A wider tire, say a 305, might rub in the front at full steering lock but I'd have the tire shop fit some 305's to see for sure.

You didn't indicate whether or not you are lifted?

It will be more a function of tread than size that will help with your traction issues there.

No i'm not lifted yet, but hope to eventually. My wife runs the truck on the highway 45 min. one way every day so I'd like a better tire.

I think your tire choice is a good one.

Ok I'm getting this narrowed down. the 285 70 17's will fit no problem but the 305 65 17's might rub a bit at full turn? I really like the look of the 305 because of the width, any issues with putting these on the stock rims?

275=10.82 inches
285=11.22 inches
305=12.00 inches

you should be ok. your adding ~1.18 inches total width with each side of tire adding .59 inch. the lower profile should help being 65 and 70. i dont see much benefit going from a 275 to a 285.

The 285 would be the safest bet on stock wheels. This should not rub which would give you a great ride.
