I dont know about the overheating of diff oil, or to where it starts to breakdown. I do know that after a long day at work, I went down there to check my exhaust for leaks and touched the diff cover and it does get hot. While I was down there I also discovered a leak of my front seal of the diff. Then again it could of been from abusing the truck at the track doing burnouts at the staging. Over 80 passes Something else I need to care of while getting the rear diff cover and fluids done.

I installed the MAG HYTEC on my 2010 Ram 1500 yesterday this is my 2nd M.H. I had one on my 2005 Ram but let it go when I traded truck in, so I used 5.5 qts on the 2005 and did so on my 2010 Ram along with 1 4oz bottle of Mopar limited slip additive. The gear oil says LS for limited slip, I just wanted a little extra inside the housing.,

I kept an eye on this site and they eventually had a 10% off with free shipping.

Here's mine. It a beautiful piece of hardware.
I ended up with about 1/4 to 3/8" of clearance with the track bar (top bar).
I even hookup up the camper and bounced around with and without the
spring bars installed on the weight distributing hitch. No issues, no leaks, nice...
Really like the cover.

Hey Fred check out this link http://www.taperformance.com/proddet...prod=TA%5F1818 I have one of these and not only does it look awesome and hold a little more fluid it strengthens the carrier with the 2 anchor bolts. Let me know what you think, I think it's less $$$ than the mag also.

Just FYI, adding more fluid doesn't help with keeping temps lower. It just delays the amount of time it takes for the fluid to heat up and cool down. Once the fluid has been heated up the only way to cool it down would be to run a cooler or replace the fluid.

I installed mine today, had to take off the left side of the track bar (top bar) to get the cover on. But I will be honest I let it drain for over an hour and I only got 3 quarts into it. Drove it around and it is still just a smidge over the top (full) line. I plan to drive a bit more tomorrow and double check one more time. my largest complaint is I had the truck in for a recall a month ago. The dealership slathered the RTV on so thick that took me longer to clean than anything else.

So do I go off the dipstick level? Or thew quarts measured in? Or did I not let it drain long enough?

Dang cold in MI to be doing that work today.
