Default Parking Brake Won't Engage. (NEW MEMBER/1ST POST)

I have a 96' Ram 1500 4x4 (5.9L 360 Magnum) w/ 190,000 miles on her'

The parking brake won't engage when pressed down, it just clicks while being depressed down, and shoots right back up when you remove your foot. And the P-Brake release lever still makes the sound it does as if it were functional ?!?!
____

Also:

Ive had problems with my BRAKE & ABS lights in the Dash staying on constantly for the past year or so. Finally I broke down and bought "what i thought" was the correct parts to fix this and get the lights off.

I replaced:
- ABS SPEED SENSOR (on top of the transaxle)
- EGR VALVE SOLENOID (PURGE VALVE)
*going off the 2 codes that kept reading upon every attempt at passing inspection .. and failing!
At 1st, the ABS light went off until driving it a bit, then it came on and went off again..& (off/on)
The BRAKE light stays on still..
???????????

WHATS NEXT?

THANKS GUYS,

Sounds like your e-brake cable has broken off or the catch mechanism on the pedal is not catching on the ratchet.

Not sure about the second issue but there are three sensors in your system. Two in front, one in the rear.

I replaced the rear speed sensor and that took care of my problem. My e-brake does the same thing. Makes all the right sounds and actions that it should except it doesn't hold the vehicle.
