Default Interesting Oil Change question

Ok, so a week and a half ago I took my baby in for her first oil change. All went well, the dealer put in semi-synthetic, reset the computer, and away I went. 500km later my oil change indicator comes on.

Now, I already know how to reset it, and have reset it. What I would like to know is why would the computer think I would need an oil change so soon? I mean there has been a bit of snow, and I tend to drive in '5' to kill the MDS for the commute because there is some stop and go. But 8500 vs 500....C'mon....

Should I be worried? Or just ignore it?

I'd have the dealer reset it. That's not right unless you have a leak!

I kinda thought leak at first too, but there is no oil in my parking spot or drop in pressure. Dipstick reads full too. My big issue is that I don't have the time til January to get it into the dealership...retail is a demanding beast.

Check that they put the right weight ie 5-20. I just had the light come on after 1300 mls after an oil change but I discovered by my receipt had 5-30. This maybe the problem?

.

I would suspect that it was not reset when the oil was changed.

Yeah, have the dealership reset it, and if you want to kill the O/D, rather than put it in '5', just hit the tow/haul, it disables the O/D and MDS but will still allow the engine to shift.

So I talked to the dealer today. They brushed it off as a glitch, and to "keep an eye on it". According to them, it's happened once or twice before to other trucks but happened only once to them.

We will just have to wait and see I guess...

Oh and it was 5w20, And it was reset as the light was on before the oil change but off after.

The oil change light probably wasnt re-set correctly...re-set it again, should be ok after that.
Just some good smart advice, for the ones that dont know.....
Dont use dealership oil unless you actually see them break open the seal on brand new 5-20 motor oil. Some dealers like to buy CHEAP bulk garbage oil and do your oil changes. Thats how they get you a better price on oil changes. The dealership i use to work at, use to buy re-filtered used "BULK" motor oil and do their oil changes with that crap. Just puttin the word out there, just be very aware of what kind of oil they`re selling you that you dont know about. I buy my oil at wallyworld...Mobile1 Synthetic 5/20 for 5-qt container for only $22 bucks, and grab 2 extra 1qt bottles = 7qts total for your hemi`s oil change.
