Default Bed lighting / tailgate lock install?

2 accessories I would really like are the LED Bed lighting and the tailgate lock. I'd like to see the instructions on how these are done if anyone has them. I can get led lights pretty cheap for the bed but I was wondering if the mopar ones integrate better.. The ones I can get come with a toggle switch. I'm not sure I want that...

Default Do you have a bed cover?

I purchased a Armor lid and it has a lock built in that wont allow you to open the tailgate when its closed. There are a set of lights out just for beds. Plasmaglow and Extang makes a nice LED kit. Just goggle them. If you decide to put a lock on the tailgate its very easy they come with directions. Can even get it to work with your remote locks if get the right ones. I would look at the Armor lid if you need a top it killer.

Personally, I think the Mopar kit is a bit overpriced (their instructions are great though). My plan is to integrate LED strips under the bed rail into my dome light circuit. This way every time the truck is locked/unlocked they will light in addition to being wired to the OEM dash switch. I'll probably take the opportunity to upgrade the cab/reverse lights to LED at that time as well.

I think the mopar kit is expensive as well. Any chance I could get a copy of the instructions for your kit? I want to tap into the dome light as well.

Ok... so here is what we did at our shop... and if you take it to a shop that does alarms and truck accesories, they can do it as well...

I installed a magnetic reed switch on the tailgate (you can BARELY notice it unless I point it out to you!) so whenever you open the tailgate it comes on and when you close it, it goes off.... I also wired in a bypass switch so you can turn it off if your going to have the tailgate down for a long time... all of the wiring can be done right there in the back using the trailer brake wiring, so nothing has to be ran up front. I can post pics if you would like.... and give any help I can... it's not to terribly hard if anyone wants to try it... I used simple 24 inch flexible LED strip lights... the Extang lights and just too bulky...

the difference in a lockable tailgate, (non electric type), is when you buy the lock, you also need this part, the first pix, the second pix is what you likely have now
[IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

Of course you also need the tailgate handle with the hole for the lock

If you don't have the backup camera, now is the time to get it as you would need a different tailgate handle than either of the other 2

Haven't done the mod yet, but this is the plan as it sits right now.

Thanks for the link. Where did you get the switch? Just one of those white door /window alarm switches? Maybe I'll do that and do a write up...
