Default Made it home from Iraq..... but not without Murphy's Laws

There were three things I was lookin forward to for my 2 weeks of leave. Seeing my kiddos, driving my truck, riding my bike. So, the day I got home, I got the truck out, checked all fluid levels, tire pressures, etc etc. Next day, I start the 700 mile round trip to spend some time with my oldest son. Made it down to Lubbock, and bout 20 miles north, my transmission started to take a good healthy shit on me. Being a good Mopar, I was able to nurse it 300 miles home. I've pretty much used that tranny up. I am amazed at the lack of availability of used transmissions for my 01, and at the price of rebuilt ones. Sheesh, I can't even buy a cheap used one to put in it while I'm home for 2 weeks. It only had 110,000 miles on it. I found used ones with 140-160k for over $1000. Just not gonna do it.

So, I think I'll go ride my bike, and take the boy on a little spin. Of course the battery was dead, so I put a charge on it. After a while, I reconnect the battery, turn on the switch, listen for the fuel pump to quit pumping. Mashed the Start button, and POW!!!!!! I smell battery acid. Pulled the battery, and didn't see anything wrong. A quick inspection shows me nothing. Pull the battery out of Dad's 96 XV1100, stick in mine. Turn the key, I hear nothing from the fuel pump, and the tach jumps to 6500 RPM. Shut it off and walked away.

Spent a few days with David, used Dad's car to take him home, and Dad lets me take his car to Topeka to visit my other 3 sons. I'm staying here with my (now) ex-wife. I got here on the 14th, and the divorce was final on the 15th. On the 15th, I took my happy ass down and bought myself a brand new Glock 21, .45 ACP and 200 rounds of ammo. It's a sexy thang, law enforcement model, came with 3 13 round mags. Get back here, and she's pissed, asking me how the hell can I afford that? My reply - I'm single now, I can buy whatever the hell I want! Then I proceeded to let her sit and watch me order some nice accessories for it, before I took it to the range and shot nearly all the ammo I bought.

Gotta go back to the sandbox on the 23rd.

is she still alive & able to kick LOL

if your going to keep the truck, have someone look for a transmission for you, so you can be ready to travel when you get back home, i did a tour overseas in the Gulf of Tonkin, i left my car at a shop that knew that i was in the service, they sent the trans out to a shop that beefed it up & the engine went to another shop that built it to the max, i sent payments to all of them while overseas, when i got back i made final payments & i was rollin in high style, until i crashed it, but, that is another story

The boys are 4, 6, 8, and 12. Y, I really enjoyed shooting it. It's the first Glock I've ever had. Now I know why everyone likes em so much. It's almost a little big for my hand, tho. Think I'll get a 21SF for concealed carry. Or maybe a 23? (.40 compact).

Ok, that's a clear case of Murphy right there. The silver lining though is you're officially single again. Handguns aren't my thing either, I'm more a large bore big-game rifle kind of guy. I love my double barrel .465 H&H

Talk about a bummer, really sucks you can't have any fun with your rides, but glad you made it back safely and that you get to spend some time with your boys! I agree, the Glock is a nice piece, never had one myself but now all I have is my .22. Sure hope you enjoy the rest of your time off!

First off, thanks for your service. I hope you enjoy your time here with your kids. It looks like you have luck like I do. I love Glocks too, they are the best USER friendly handgun I have ever shot. My buddy always gets pissed when I out shoot him at the range with his own glock, haha.
