Default Whats gears?

Hey guys im new here and im trying to find out some info on gears. i have an 02 dodge ram 1500 4x4 standard cab with a 4.7 and stock 3:55 gears i put 33" nitto mud grapplers on it a couple years ago and havent had the time or money to do gears untiol now. First question is where do i get an 8" front case so that i can fit 4:56 gears and the second question is 4:56 gears overkill or should i go with the 4:10.

Thanks
Nick

I'd go with 4.10's if you want to keep anything that resembles gas mileage.

No need to go to 4.56s.

I agree! No need for 4.56's unless you plan on some rock crawling.

I have not seen a case specifically for your application but I haven't looked that much for one. I'd try 4wheelparts.com or call a local trans/differential shop to see what they know.

I have to agree and say go with the 4.10 gears in the truck. It is a big enough difference from the 3.55 that you would notice. And like the others said it will be less of a pain on the MPG then the 4.56 gears. If you had 3.92 gears then I would say go with the 4.56 gears

Also make sure you do the front and rear gears. Dont just do one diff or else you wont be able to use your 4x4. Just thought I would mention that to be safe.

If you think you might go to a bigger tire sometime down the road I'd go 4.56s otherwise 4.10s like everyone has suggested.

For a 4.7 4x4 with a lift and 30"-35" tire diameter i would do 4.56's. Yep you will need gears for the corp 9.25 rear and 8" IFS front axle.
Difference between 4.10's and 4.56's is about 200rpm. Save MPG then don't drive 75+
