Angry Nearly 1 in 4 fails military exam

This is really sad to say the least. When I joined the Army had the lowest standards, I don't know if that's still the case.

If you read further into the article it also goes on to state that 75% of applicants in the 17-24 age group are unqualified because of physical fitness, test scores, and felonies. I am still currently serving, and have been since 1999, and I can see the rapid decline in the product that our society is currently producing. However, dont worry too much about our National Security because there are still plenty of guys and gals in the service that are more than capable of getting the mission done!

I can attest to this. I am a recruiter and this is definitely the case. With that being said I can't speak for other branches of service, but as far as Marines are concerned we have higher standards than ever before so that does contribute a little (we don't need very many people). But when dealing with the asvab the standards are still the same, and I run into it daily where applicants cannot pass the test.

That is sad, but in all honesty, not all that surprising. Don't know about schools today, but when I was in high school, we were required to take the ASVAB, whether we intended to join the service or not. Maybe it's just me and the fact that it has been several years since I took it, but it seemed to me that a lot of the questions were more common sense oriented rather than academically challenging, but either way, still doesn't speak well of current standards in curriculum.

When my son took the asvab test he scored very high . They said he could qualify for a nuclear engineer . Instead he opted for a structural mechanic position .

^ lol That's how it works! I scored 98 on my ASVAB and I am a aircraft mechanic. Though I was originally signed for combat controller (which is also a ATC). I think that ARMY has the lowest required ASVAB. If they cannot pass that test then they are not going far anywhere they work! It is sad to see our society at this point.

I signed up back in 1962, high school grad
only took tests for college
went into boot camp & took tests, i had gone in as an airdale, didn't want to be on a ship, i qualified as a jet or reciprocal engine mechanic & was very happy camper, knowing that i would get out & have almost the perfect job.
the effers needed grunts to push bombs, missiles, & rockets, guess where they stuck me? on a effin aircraft carrier as 1 of the few Airdales assigned to the Gunnery Division, i started my short timers chain as soon as they told me

my short timers chain was 3 years & 3 months long when i started it

It's going to get worse..

In our area they are changing all failing grades to "I" for incomplete. They are not to be told they are failing or are failures. They will pass on to the next grade until they accumulate enough credits to graduate.

I just love our new society.

I find it ironic that the education system is first to be blamed.

Is it really the education system, or that today's youth isn't willing to accept responsibility for their own actions?

Perhaps they have this perception of their parents bailing them out no matter what clusterfrick they get themselves into... and when the military shows them the realities in life, it's easier to go back to mommy and daddy and the Democrats spoon feeding their whiny asses.

Just sayin.
