I believe its a 3:21 I'm not 100% but like Sking said maybe it was a bad tranny, but if it happens one more time they said they would step up and help so I guess I'll give it one more shot and see what happens. The motor is plenty strong,it accelerates with the load with no problem...pretty impressive.

Those 3.21s could be part of if not the problem. They're great for mpg but they aren't great for towing/power/torque. Were it me, I'd see if the dealer would swap them out for 3.92s for free.

I agree though, it could be just a bad trans too.

The 3:21 gear is only rated to pull 5800 lbs and that's with 17 inch wheels.

I would recheck your truck to a towing guide. I am suprised someone at the Service department didn't run those numbers.

I have the 3.92 rear end and have been pulling my 8k travel trailer with no issues. About 8k miles on the truck (total) so far. When I bought my truck, I told the dealer I needed to pull up to 9k - they assured me my setup would be fine.

What you are saying is your trans. went bad so why go to a diesel? Sounds like it's not your engine's fault.

The diesels have a heavier duty trans. But in this particular case, they load being pulled was more than the design specs for the truck.

If you're running 3.21s and towing that much a simple gear swap will solve the problem. Go down to your local 4x4 shop and have them throw a set of 4.10s in it and you'll never look back. Like RB said...too much of a load for the way the truck is set up (gear wise). A diesel would solve the problem but at a hugh cost for such a small amount of weight. The 2500/3500 gas motors use the same trans as the 1500 so IMHO the trans isn't the problem when the towing capacities are adherred to.
