Default Help me choose a carport

Hello im new on the forums. Im purchasing my first ever Dodge tomorrow. Im upgrading from my 05 Chevy Avalanche to the new 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport. I really want to keep this truck in good condition. I dont have a garage so I want to purchase a carport. I want somthing that will hold up through storms and in snow. I dont really want to put more than 400 into one if I can get away with it. I found two for under that price that are supposed to be heavy duty and will hold up in all weather. How do these two carports look? How will they hold up? Any other suggestions within the price range?

Welcome to the Z. They both seem decent and share the same flaw. Everything is dependent on how you anchor them. Have you got that worked out yet?

We have a lot of forums for all kinds of topics, so you shouldn't have any problems finding a place to post questions.

We LOVE pics of Rams.

Here's how to post them: http://www.ramforumz.com/forumdisplay.php?f=73

with either one you could make your own cement weights or use the 15 " auger anchors, if you don't live where you have high winds

the heavy duty polyethylene tarp will last about 4 years, it should have RIP STOP feature, ask about it

the other has it Triple-layer, polyethylene, rip-stop weave fabric cover

better check with both places to make sure that they both have sides, it does not look like the TOP CANOPY does
they are both sort of light duty

Gotta agree with two good points made already, how you anchor it is going to really determine success or not, but the rip stop feature adds to durability, IMO. If it were me, I would go with the first one. That one also seems to offer more bang for your buck.

If you live in an area that doesn't see a lot of violent weather, they would both work. They look somewhat light duty, but should protect your new truck from the sun and rain.

I like the features of the first one, especially the foot plates and the ratchet mechanism for tightening the tarp. They will sag and being able to tighten them up without having to unsnap, restretch and resnap everything is a definite plus in my book. Been there, done that.

I don't believe that either one is long enough to totally enclose the truck. Also, the Rams are quite tall. Is it high enough where the cross bar goes across the front of the "garage."

First of all make sure that 1-Your landlord will allow you to use such a thing and 2-Make sure the local municipality will allow you to use one. Where I am if you stick something like that in your front yard the city will make you take it down, pronto. If you don't have access to drive your truck around the back you can probably forget about using it.
