Default drive shaft muffler

I was talking to a local mechanic im friends with about making my truck louder and he said he knows a way to make it louder than cherry bombs, glass packs, strait pipes or whatever....., because he said he has done it before.
He said right after my catalytic converters to put a driveshaft in (half piece on each side) and he said because of the thickness or density of it or somthing makes it super loud but super illegal... have any of you ever heard of any such thing???

a driveshaft??? Nope...can't see that happening. Are you sure you heard him correctly?

Could it be he's talking about a crossover or x-pipe?

He is talking about cutting the driveshaft to make it look like a regular pipe and putting it inbetween the Cats and the exhaust tips like in place of the muffler if you know what im saying???

oh..a muffler delete? Not sure what the driveshaft has to do with it unless he's using an old to mimic the body of a muffler. Hell, why not just use pipe? The diameter of a driveshaft is nowhere near the size of the stock muffler.

It's illegal. It will be loud. I think no matter what is in place of the muffler, the local authorities will ticket you anyway for noise if they are having a bad day.

One thing to consider is just to remove the mufflers and put in a piece of pipe. I'm still confused as to why using a cut driveshaft would be any different than open exhaust pipe.

Must have something to do with the thickness of the metal used for driveshafts, it would definitely have a different sound.

No pipe is gonna change that...the whole exhaust system is a sound chamber that leaks frequencies along it's entire length. I can understand a small change in tone maybe but louder? nope...it's an open exhaust regardless of what thickness wall pipe is in there.

Why add weight to the truck?

Growing up, my neighbor had an early 80's Ford 1/2 ton and his exhaust was loud as hell. Obnoxiously loud in fact. I remember him and my dad hanging out one day drinking beer and the subject came up. My dad asked him what he under there (glass packs, cherry bomb, etc...) His answer was true duels and about 3 ft of drive shaft welded in.

My bedroom was in the basement at the front of the house and he'd wake me up at 0545 when he left for work.

Don't know if the noise would be worth the weight or the number of tickets one would be sure to accumulate.
