i ran into the same situation myself several years ago, that is why i mentioned the trick, i just couldn't remember just what it was & i had to google it.
I ran into it on a 440 powered Polara, ex Highway Patrol vehicle, i had to do it from below, i luckily found a abandoned garage with a short stationary ramp to pull up on

Good Luck getting it running soon

Good luck, let us know..there is always the chance that nothing serious happened...I have heard of such good luck, just never experienced it myself.

Okay....!!
Pulled the engine out again and moved the torque converter over to the tranny. She slid together like two wrestlers in Jello!! We'll see what I broke this weekend because once I got a couple bolts in her, I decided that was enough for today.

WTG Hopefully no harm was done in previous attempts.

Actually DROVE her out the door last night!!!
Just pulled her out and went inside, because I wanted to have a decent nights sleep for a change. Got a few little things to attend to. Seems the throttle cable has limited travel. Need to fab up a new end for the kick down cable since I broke that. Need to let it warm up outside ( so I don't burn down the shop because of all the fluids spilled on the exhaust) and top off the radiator. And the hood...
But I have a vacuum line coming up from the trans and it ends in what looks like a broken check valve. I suspect this is a vent and doesn't hook to anything. Is that correct??
If anyone could point me to a vacuum line diagram,it would be much appreciated.

Drove her five miles and she's just great!!
Stuck on defrost, but that should be a five minute job to find the vacuum line. It can wait because it's like five degrees out there...
Made the mistake of adding two gallons of antifreeze and then a gallon of water but didn't wait for the thermostat to open up when I parked it outside. Things froze FAST here overnight and the upper hose had frozen solid. Got her inside and was sure I had wrecked the radiator. Looks like the drips were just melting snow because there is nothing dripping now....whew.

Been a couple hundred miles now!! Fixed the little problems quickly. Still need to adjust the TV cable, but that can wait for the temp to come up a little more.

Congrats on having her up and running. Looks like you "Dodged" another bullet on that anti-freeze thing.
