Exclamation Front end shakes badly after bump

Hey guys, i have this problem with my 1995 ram 1500 4x4, its lifted with 35's thats how i bought it not too sure what kit was used i havn't had time to check it out its pretty cold and no access to garage

but whats happening is ill be going straight hit a bump or crack in road and front end starts wobbling and shaking its like wheels are going side to side i have to turn wheel to stop it,
it will sometime start right after a turn when going in straight line? any ideas is this common problem with old worn out stuff on lifted trucks?

I had a similar problem with my old F250. I found that the steering stabilizer shock was non existent. I replaced it, and never a shake again. Look at that, and see if it is bad, or even there.

My 04 2500 had that, they called it a Death Wobble, it ended up being the lower ball joints, I was on the New Jersey Turnpike when it first happened, could not beleive it, the truck only had about 35,000 miles, I took it to the dealer that time he just rotated the tire's, it was ok for about another 10,000 miles, but it came back, until I replaced the ball joints

Sounds like you have the infamous "Death Wobble" . Best thing I can tell ya , is get the front end checked over real good . Replace any worn parts . Realign it and cross your fingers . There is no definite fix for this . It's a lot of trial and error . Do a google search on Death Wobble and you'll see what I'm talking about . Again trust me , there is no one thing that will fix this . There are many differnt things you can try . Some work , some don't . Several years ago on tv , (I think the show was Trucks) they did a thing on DW on a Jeep . Was really a good show . They went as far as changing the geometry of the steering linkage . It seemed to help . I'm sure we'll hear more from ya about this . Talk to ya soon . Tom

Just break down and rebuild your front end. It's not that difficult. My ball joints were not bad so I did not replace them but I did replace everything else. Drives great now and I don't have to take a change of underwear with me anymore.

It could be multiple things with the front-end. Don't fool around with it. Take to a reputable shop that can go through it and fix what needs fixing. Its not even worth trying to guess in my opinion as the DW take no prisoners if it opens up on you at high speeds.

An upgraded steering stabilizer is a great help for decreasing the severity of the wobble.

thanks for all the replies, iam going to research and watch those episodes i plan on rebuilding or swapping my engine this summer so it looks like ill be going over the whole front end!

ill replace ball joints etc
get new steering stabilizer
maybe go with bilstiens 5100's if they make for my year 95
and i wanted to level front end with 2'' spacers i hate how front end is so much lower than back

just sucks i wanted to drive truck over winter but iam worried DEATH WOBBLE might start happening while going highway speeds next time so far only happens after hitting bump going around 60 kms or 40 mph i can turn wheel side to side to stop it but it seems to be getting worse

ill keep you all posted on what iam doing to fix D W
