Default Shifter Knob

Does anyone know how the factory shifter knob is held in place on a 2008 Ram 1500 ? Can't seem to get it loose and I don't want to mess up the threads if there are any.

don't know if the 08, is the same as the 09, if it is, you need to gently pry the plastic chrome piece under the black knob straight down till it releases, a thin flat tool like a putty scraper helps, then you gently pry the knob fingers that extend down onto the shaft, away from the shaft while pulling straight up on the knob..it will snap off....There is a very small tab located on the consel, about 1/2 inch or less in size...if you pop of this cover, and depress the red tab under it, you can move the shifter into "N" position, which will make the whole thing easier...there are some other posts with photos on this forum site, you may want to look at...hope this may help
