Cool Hi ! Question about the heater core!

I have a 95 Dodge Ram 5.9 , Just wondering what the vaccum line does on the back of the teperature control assembly, on my intrument panel?
And..
Do I have to discharge my a/c to remove my heater core? How Difficult and how long can i expect the removal and instalation of a core to take??

Any tips would be great !!!!

If I'm not mistaken I believe that vacuum line actuates a door in your heater plenum to let heated or air cooled air into the cabin.

I wouldn't think you need to discharge your a/c to remove the heater core. You just may have to unbolt the compressor and move it out of the way. I wouldn't remove the lines going to it unless they are hard lines. Then you would have another problem.

I don't know how much difference there is between the 5.2 and the 5.9 heater core wise but i just replaced the core on my 99 1500 4wd 5.2 and it took about 8 hrs, in a heated garage, with air tools along with a friend of mine who is a tech for another car manufacturer. I did not have to take the a/c lines loose nor did i discharge the a/c system
