Too bad really. Sorry to see a new Ram get scratched. One of my kids scraped her bicycle handlebar for ~18 inches down the side of mine two weeks after I got it if that makes you feel any better ;-)

Thats the story I gave my parents after sneaking the car out for a drive when I was 14. Pulled it in the garage and put a nice scrape down the side and told them I did it with my bike.

I have to agree with a few others who don't think the scratch is from the wheel guide rail. That scratch is way too high from any I have ever seen.
I would also imagine that there would be more of an arc to the scratch if your wheel made contact as it rolled along the rail. This scratch appears to be straight up and down as opposed to across. This would indicate to me that the wheel was stationary when an object came it contact with it.

If you're sure that you got the scratch at the wash I would go back and take another look at the machinery to see if anything else could have done it.

You can't expect the wash to take a hit for a scratch that is higher than the rail on their track. If you can come up with a better cause then maybe they would listen.

How much mark up (percentage or dollar amount) are they putting on the wheel and how much do you think is fair given the cost of running a dealership?

The dealership wants $590 + $41 tax = $631 dollars for (1) One 20" chrome clad rim.

Not to mention the extra 40 or so dollars i'd have to scrounge up to get a tire shop to replace the tire and rim and get it balanced. We're talking nearly 700 dollars now.

for a steel rim with a plastic chrome cover on it, i dont think you'll find anybody who is going to jump up and down screaming what an awesome price this is.

I might consider buying a replacement rim and keeping it as a spare if it was under $200 dollars.

I am waiting on a new rim that my local dealer is replacing under warranty. It has a small blemish near the center cap, it's yours for a song if I can talk them into letting me keep it.

That looks like a chrome clad aluminum wheel to me but since I don't know the year and trim level of your truck, I can't say that with 100% certainty. The DS only comes with chrome clad aluminum in the 20" design so that would explain the higher cost. By the way, if the local tire shop wants $40 to mount and balance one tire, you might want to present your argument about overpricing to them as well.

been following this thread i too have to say i don't know what could have caused a scratch like that except is this a touchless wash or brushes because here we have a touchless eash but before they run it it they spray the wheels with a power wash wand if they do that there that could be what happened someone hit the rim with the wand if so take that to them see what they say

Welcome to NJ.

Land of everything over priced.

Typical tire shops will charge between 25-40 per tire for a dismount, mount and balance.
