Default Fuel Octane?

I have a 2006 1500 with the HEMI. I was wondering what octane grade you all use and if a middle or higher grade helps and how much it helps? I just use the lowest grade either 86 or 87, I get about 12.5 mpg in town

I have an 08 and the octane grades really don't effect my Dodge. I use the lowest

I usually use the cheapest too. I've seen some folks say its better to use a higher rating if only doing city driving.

I use 91 in my 05 hemi and i get 14 mpg city between 45 and 50 mph. I am one of those who like to get on it from stop lights too. I also get between 19 and 21 highway at 70 mph. Even with 89 grade I get pinging tho.

My truck refused to run on 87, pinged on 89 and loved 92 when stock.

When I got my programmer I set it for the 91 octane tune and the truck loves it. I don't get that great of mileage - Lifted MegaCab with 3.73's and a maniac behind the wheel - but I didn't buy it for mileage, I bought it for power.

I started with Exxon 89 and switched to Shell 93 V-Power about 3 months ago. On average I gained approximately .8 mpg; all city driving. To me the truck also feels less sluggish off the line. Could be Shell's claims of the V-Power additives or could just be in my head...

I've been using 87 Shell, Texaco or Exxon since truck was new. It was a company vehicle and I was required to buy the cheap stuff. Especially when gas was 3 dollars a gallon or more. Now that I own the truck, I don't see me going up in grade when fuel prices are going up again. I have never noticed any pinging noises during any acceleration or any cruising speeds from 30 to 100 mph. I know Dodge recommends 89 but they also say you can use 87 with light pinging without damage, according to the owners manual. I'm averaging 13 mpg city and 17 mpg hwy. There's a little lead in my foot if that means anything. I can't drive 55..... 65 or 70 either.

Stock i followed service manual suggestions for running 89. 06-07 i brought the in SC3815 then loaded the performance 91 tune and started using 91. Been that way every since.
