Default plastic molded strip under bumper

does this piece serve any purpose. i know on some vehicles it directs air in to the radiator to help with cooling but not sure on the dodge. reason being when i was washing my truck yesterday i noticed it was cracked must have been done by previous owner. if it doesnt serve a purpose other then looks i'm gonna take it off. any advice on whether i should or shouldn't do this

Default

I removed it on my new 2011 Dodge Ram within a week of ownership. In my opinion, it looks much better.
