Default 47RE transmission rebuild

Wanting to do my own rebuild on this truck I bought for towing my Jeep. There does not seem to be any support out there for the 47RE gas version. Everything I find is for the diesel. The shift points and pressures have to be different between the two? Any recommendations on rebuild kits and shift kits are appreciated. Should I do the overdrive as well or leave it alone? Also want a extra capacity pan with a trans temp gauge.

Any special tools I need to be aware off? I have rebuilt a few transmissions but never any Dodge ones.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

As with any transmission there are always special tools required . I think there is a special one for the spring in the overdrive . There may be others . Definitely look at a shift kit . My trans had a Transgo kit put in it also . All the updates were installed .

Click on the link in the first thread here http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=68054

It should bring up a site with the 01 service manual in pdf it might help.

Tom,
How is the shift with the shift kit? I'm going to be rebuilding mine next week. I was considering a shift kit but I don't really want a real harsh shift. I had that when I had my '67 cougar and it was cool for that car but I don't really want that on the truck.

I have a guy helping me with mine that knows these transmissons very well and can firm up the shift without a kit. I actually like the smooth shift it had before Monday evening.

Ed

Ed , he's probably just gonna crank up the line pressure . That will help to a certain degree . I like the way mine shifts . Normal driving it feels great . You wouldn't even know it has a kit in it . Now when your getting down with it , it'll want to snap your neck . If it had smaller tires theres no doubt it would be chirping them .

I'm sure thats what he has in mind. I did the c-4 in the Cougar and it chirped everytime it hit 2nd gear. I loved it, the wife.........not so much. I realize there is a huge difference in the two vehicles, so we'll see what happens. Thanks
