Default Key Fob? Someone who works at a Dealer maybe

I bought a 2010 1500 QC Sport. I ordered the Remote start through the dealer and after 2 Months it came in. I dropped my truck off at the dealer for install and when I picked it up it they gave me the two new fobs with remote start button. I realized that they didn't give me back my original fob. I tried the second original I had and it didn't work. I figured I could get it reprogrammed. I was then thinking, hmmm why didn't they give me back my other original that came with the truck.

I asked the dealer at my first oil change and the answer I received was "they won't work anymore, we send them back" I asked if it could be reprogrammed and he told me no. He said once you get the remote start that the original fob can't be programmed to work.

I still feel like that original fob was mine. I think I looked them up and found they were $165 or so.

Does anyone know if they are telling me the truth?

TIA,

Mike

You should have received both key fobs back reprogrammed. The Granville dealer reprogrammed my old key fobs when they installed my remote start. Keep for emergency or maybe e-bay.

I was also told once you program the keyfob you cant reprogram it again and that what a guy on ebay told me that sells them and its on his instructions he sends out to people who order brand new key fobs from him.

When they did my remote start, they reprogrammed one of my old fobs because it was the only one I brought with me. But they did give me 2 new ones with the remote start button on them.

the old FOBs once used on a vehicle can NOT be reused once a vehicle has been modified, the old FOBs would only unlock your doors, they could not be used to start it

the dealer DOES send the old FOBs back to the manufacturer of the FOBS, they open the FOBs, remove the battery, break a seal i believe, then they remove the CHIP & replace it with a brand new chip, put in a new Battery & close it back up

NOTE:
once a key has been programmed for any vehicle, it can NEVER be reprogrammed to work with another vehicle
IF you buy from an eBay seller, most of the FOBs or FOBIKs are used, If you want to buy off eBay, make certain that it reads NEW & not RARE or USED
even then you may be buying from a con man

I would only trust the dealer or a certified locksmith

The bottom line is that once the fob is programmed to a vehicle is CANNOT be programmed for another one. The old fob's belong to you and they should have given them back.

Thanks RamTech.

On that note, it's not another vehicle it's the same one. So could the original vehicle fobs still be programmed to my vehicle or not because even though the vehicle itself didn't change something with the chips or codes in the vehicle did.

The dealer kept both of my old fobs when installing the factory remote start. They claimed the same as the others that they can't be reprogrammed.
