so your saying look at the frame with all of the parts in it to see the damage there? then if there isnt too much extensive damage i could use that and find a way to put my body on it?

Hmmmm, that would be interesting. I've seen the swap done on quite a few box style Chevy's (73-87), but not so much on the 3rd gen Rams. Good luck!

That's right. An FYI, the megacab short box is based on the 2500 suspension, is if you have a QC reg box, you should be able to drop the body onto the frame. Now, with the cummins, it's possible that the tranny crossmember is a few inches back that on the hemi just due to the longer I6 block.

so would it be easier to find a doner frame with 2500 suspension or get 2500 suspension from a truck of my year?

You only really need the springs to take the weight of the motor, so that'd be the easier route. However, the 2500 has a solid front axle and the 1500 had an IFS, so this is where you determine how you want it to ride.

so your saying that all i will need to change in the suspension is the front springs? and will i need to change either axle right away or just as time passes and i want more power? and do i need to do anything to my rear axle and suspension?

With the IFS, the springs are what take the weight. Swapping the springs out to the 2500 springs will take the weight of the I6. That should be the extent of the suspension work. I might recommend upgrading the rear axle to a Dana 40 for strength, but the stock 1500 axle will do fine if you're not planning on any serious performance mods to the diesel. You might have to change the pinion angle of the rear diff to match the tranny since it'll be a bit longer, and potentially shorten the driveshaft (but those are both maybes).

I wish I was home right now, there was a great article in either Diesel world or diesel power with this conversion.

Any way you look at it , it's gonna be alot of work and trial and error . I'm not sure I'd want to undertake this job .

yeah im just looking at my options... are Dana 40s in almost any 2500? so all of the major hand work would include..... moving or recreating the tranny crossmember, change sprigs, tons of wiring, pinion angles, ecu, motor mounts, even more wiring, change a bunch of stuff in the drive shaft, would i need to do anything with steering column? anything else i would need to change?
