Default HELP! Mufflers.....

Ok guys, I am in need of some serious advice. I have been looking at replacing the OEM muffler with the Magnaflow 18". When I spoke with a guy at the muffler shop he suggested the flowmaster 70 series.... So here I am trying to decide now between 4 different mufflers. Any advice/videos/sounds ANYTHING would really help. I am looking for something with a nice deep rumble without it being really loud in the cab. I want my V8 to sound like a damn V8! One more thing, I am concerned about loosing some low end torque as well. Is there anything that can avoid that other than a tuner? Or a muffler that wouldn't cause a loss in torque?

List of what I am looking at below.

Magnaflow 18"
Magnaflow 14"
Flowmaster 70 series
Flowmaster 40 series

I will be throwing on some 5" tips most likely to fill the holes in the bumper nicely if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance!!

I would suggest doing some YouTube exhaust clip cruising. That helped me out a lot. I went with a 24" Mufflex and it has a nice tone, without being excessively load or sounding like a "pissed off bumblebee" when it goes into MDS/Eco mode. Let it be known that I do have the single 3" system, not the dual 2.5"....Also, I noticed absolutely no reduction in torque or power by swapping the muffler. I had heard the same thing, but made the switch anyway. I'm very satisfied with my setup.

magnaflow 18" would be your best bet, V8 sound without the in cab drone or noise. flowmasters will drone in cab much more then the magnaflows

Actually, the 70 series Flowmaster isn't bad in the cab at all. BTW ANY muffler is going to have some kind of "noise" in the cab.

The 70 series isn't a bad sounding muffler. I'd go to the mfgr websites and look for some soundclips and vids.

As long as you stick with your stock pipe size you will have no low end torque loss.

Magnaflow 18" is what I went with and it sounds great! No drone from MDS.

Awesome, thanks for the advice guys. There are so many choices out there and I have listened to about 50 youtube videos. The problem with the videos is the different quality in video cameras, which makes it hard to compare one to another when 2 of the same Magnaflow 18" sound different. lol! I narrowed it down last night to the Magnaflow 18" and the Flowmaster 70 series. Thanks for the info on the stock pipe size Maddog, that makes this a whole lot easier.
I have heard the 70 series has more of a cab drone than the Magnaflow 18" but is that because it is a deeper rumble? I can turn my MDS off by going into manual/automatic mode. Basically where you shift it manually up to 5 and then let the engine shift up and down on its own without kicking on the MDS.

I went with the 14inch. As much as people are saying it can have bad drone, I don't notice it really that much at all. Quite frankly, the muffler is quieter than I thought. I guess it is still breaking in and I have roughly 300 miles on it.
Definitely check youtube though.

The shorter the muffler, the louder it will me. I know the flowmaster 40 is popular for people wanting a loud muffler. There is always the potential for the MDS drone, but if you keep the stock piping and are just replacing the muffler then you should be fine.

Yeah I was looking at the 14" and the 40 series but have heard bad things about them being too loud or the drone... I am getting the impression they are different on every vehicle that they are installed on. Be nice if there was a Ram meeting in Washington this week lol. Would be nice to hear first hand the difference.
