Default why do they cost less?

i was wanting to see if anyone knew why a wider tire say a 275/55/20 would cost less than a 275/60/20 tire? also i have a 2004 dodge ram 5.7 4x4 and it has the junk 275/60/20 goodyear hp's what would be the biggest tire i could put on it i have had 295/50/20 on it before without any trouble i am not sure if my truck has been lifted it dont look like it but it is higher in the air then my father in laws 02 dodge its like getting in a car when you get in his compared to mine..thanks i was looking at the cooper zeon ltz's and thats why i ask because there 275/55/20 is cheaper then there 275/60/20

A 275/55 is cheaper because you're getting a shorter height tire. Same width, just less sidewall.

the 275/55/20 would be close to an inch smaller then the 275/60/20. The 275 is the width so they would be the same. Tires 101!!!

i believe some smaller tires have higher load ratings/ more plies. wich is why they are more expensive. i know when i was looking attires the 265/70/17 were slightly more expensive than the 285/70/17

Another factor is if it's a very comon size and how long it's been on the market. If it came OE on several different vehicles, they had to make a lot of them. The more they make the lower the price. Odd-ball sizes are most often very high because they don't sell many. If it's new and everybody has to have it, it'll be high. Quality, materials, R&D on new products, all enter in too.
