Default Which Exhaust on my 2000 5.9?

Hey there everyone! I know this one has probably been asked a million times and everybody has their own opinions, but I bought my first Ram a few months ago, a 2000 1500 QuadCab Laramie 4x4 5.9 with only 60k miles on it. I have done the entire chassis with Chassis Saver so the underside looks like brand new, last thing rusty is the Exhaust. So I'm wanting to put a new cat back muffler/pipes from my local shop. They carry Flowmaster 40, Magnaflow, and Cherry Bomb mufflers. I want a good sound but do not want anything that is going to drone in the cab on the highway. What do you all suggest as best sound for the 5.9 but not so crazy loud to drone inside the cab? I think I will do a 1 in/2 out muffler with each pipe coming out behind each rear wheel.

Any thoughts or recommendations are apprecaited.

Thanks!

Cherrybomb vortex.. high flow good rumble when you punch it with a soft interior sound just a little louder then stock. I used to run one on my 2006 but i switched to the single chamber cherrybomb extreme because i want a good loud truck. But you will not be dissapointed with the vortex if your looking for a soft interior sound.

Thanks Wester, I'll see if they have that one at the shop.

I like the Magnaflow sound myself. It's so hard to pick an exhaust for someone else when it's so hard to pick one for yourself! Have you listened to any of the sound files at the manufacturer's websites?

Yeah, I've been to all their websites and also of course listened to hundreds of clips on Youtube. I lean torwards Magnaflow just based on it being SS and won't wrot out like the Flows will, plus I'm affraid the Flowmaster 40 will drone in the cab like I've heard others report. My only concern with the Magnaflow is it will be just slightly too quiet. LOL! I am probably the worst exhaust consumer out there, I'm way too picky. Just wish I could install all the mufflers on there and listen to each one back to back. Oh well, I"ll pick one and hopefully like the sound. Does Magnaflow have resonators you can take out?

Magnaflow all the way. The magnaflow will be louder depending on how you set it up. You can also do a round instead of box muffler and the round will be louder (absorbs less sound). My magnaflow is loud! I run a custom 3" in and 4" out system ( I don't recommend you do this unless you've done some other mods). I also have a custom y pipe and their high flow cats and love it. It will get louder depending if you do do a y pipe and later on headers so don't rule it out as being to quiet, you will be surprised.

Well, I got my exhaust installed today, ended up doing a Flowmaster 40, let my installer talk me into it. He spent about 3 hours tediously bending my tailpipes to tuck them up as high as he could and dump them out at the rear quarter panels, just how I wanted it. It is a little loud for my wife, she's already complaining about it, but it definitely does sound mean.

I was scrolling through and was just about to say go with any of them except the series 40...........................

I love the 40 and always had a ALOT of sound and mild to moderate engine drone in the cabs, but the tailpipes look beautiful. The guy did some nice work. Then again that whole truck looks purty.

Thanks Relentless! Considering he had to fully eyeball each bend and then look at, then go back and rebend over and and over he did a great job. Yeah I originally talked myself out of that 40, but somehow got talked back into it. It does have some drone in the cab, not enough to hate it, but it's there. I guess it's a sacrifice for that louder mean rumble at idle. Puts a smile on my face when I fire it up now though. Thanks on the truck too, I've only had it for 4 months, bought it off a rancher in Nebraska, it only has 60k miles on it.
