Default o2 cheaters

I had hollowed out my cats and used the spark plug defowlers, aka o2 cheaters, and didn't get any check engine light for almost a year. Couldn't stand the raspy sound so I finally broke down and just cut the cats completly out and replaced with strait pipes. It instantly set the engine light. I was wondering if anyone has tried the steel wool trick? Is it worth trying or any sugestions on hi flow cats?

I read somewhere that if you remove the o2 cheaters and stuff them with steel wool that it wouldn't let as much exhaust gas get to the sensor therefore tricking the sensors into thinking that the cats are still there.

steel wool would get close to the same temps as a cat would thus making it a mini cat right before the o2 sensor is what ive always thought about it. and when i do my long tubes with no cats in february after getting the inspection renewed im going to do it like this http://hemitruckclub.infopop.cc/eve/...52/m/191101794 its the very last post youll be looking at

use 2 foulers per sensor (post cat), drill out one of the foulers so the sensor fit's in and stuff steel wool in the bottom fouler...
